THE BOOK OF LOST THINGS - First meeting
Review by Gracia Requena
Our first session was on 9th March. This time, we decided to read The Book of Lost Thing up to the page 250, roughly the middle of the book.
Have you
ever wondered how thin the line between reality and fantasy is? You must read The
Book of Lost Things to find out. This book was written by John Connolly, an
Irish writer who is mainly known for his novel about the detective Charles
Parker.
The book tells the story of David, just twelve
when he lost his beloved mother. His world is falling apart: the loss of his
mother, the outbreak of the Second World War, and mainly the remarrying of his
father and his new step-brother. However, he seeks consolation in the myths and
fairytales that he used to read to his ill mother. But soon, the real world and
the fantasy world begin to melt into one. From that moment, we start a long
journey into a fantastic and terrifying world inhabited by most of the
characters of the fairytales, but with a twist.
I have to say that it’s a book that I couldn´t
put it down. It’s really easy to read and very difficult to forget. The plot is
absorbing and astounding and it’s also touching and appalling almost at the
same time. Obviously, this book is not for children, however it’s a must read.
We need to meet again in order to finish the
book, so we´ll meet on 20th April.
